Just a few feet from the top of Lincoln, I found this steep drop that gave me a perfect view of the terrain's tumultuous descent back to Alma.
There's something to be said for climbing a 14er on 2 wheels. No time for multi-day, triple century offroad bike trips this last year, but nevertheless -- before my "pinky" fracture/dislocation -- I still had a good run/ride up Mt. Lincoln, Cameron Peak and skirting Mt. Democrat. Not once, but twice. Wasn't so much snow this assault in July. Taking the Buckskin road from Alma all the way to the split and continuing to ride up to the end of the trail was the easy part. Getting back down the 2nd time though was a bit more challenging. Instead of backtracking, this time I took the hiker trail around Bross, thinking I was on the route that would go by Democrat. I quickly realized I had gone too far to my left. Had to use the bike as a walking stick, an ineffective one at that down some tricky slopes. Will have to redo this next year and make sure I take the west slope, so I get a slightly better trail back to Kite Lake.
